At Peak Performance MAT & Personal Training, I strive to inspire and empower people to improve their overall health by offering NASM Certified one-on-one personal training, STRONG by Zumba Certified group training classes, NASM Certified Fitness Nutrition counseling and customized meal planning, and Muscle Activation Techniques to keep your whole body strong and healthy.

What is MAT?

MAT is a powerful muscular assessment tool that analyzes and corrects muscular imbalances. We focus on the cause of the pain by testing, correcting, and maintaining muscular contractile efficiency.

Muscles move bones and hold joints stable. When muscles fail, ligaments and joints take the stress. The first sign of muscle dysfunction is tightness. Tightness can look like anything from tight hamstrings to frozen shoulder syndrome. Most anything that shows up as a limited range of motion can be considered tightness.

The second sign of muscle dysfunction is pain. Pain is the body’s “check engine” light. When the body detects instability, its natural response is to tighten up.

While others look at tightness as the issue, we look at tightness as a weakness.

What causes muscles to shut down?

Stress, trauma, overuse, dehydration, and vitamin/mineral deficiencies can all cause muscles to quit working efficiently. When a muscle or group of muscles shut down, they shift their primary function to other muscles, leaving the joints unstable and range of motion (ROM) limited. This causes stress, trauma, overuse, and eventually the shutting down of additional muscles. Results can include back pain, joint pain in the knees, hips, shoulders, frozen shoulder, tendonitis, IT band syndrome, patella-femoral syndrome, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, headaches, inflammation, and limited flexibility, just to name a few.

Who is MAT for?

MAT is beneficial to EVERYONE! Young and old, active and not-so active. It can improve athletic training and help correct movement compensation from old injuries.

MAT can also help prevent future injuries by keeping muscles strong, which in turn keeps joints strong.

If you have unexplained pain and inflammation or tightness somewhere in the body, MAT can be beneficial.
